Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 6129

Uqbah bin Fakih narrates: I went to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him). He came out to me with a spear in his hand. I said: O Abu Kharijah, what is the spear for at this hour? He said: I am looking for this vile creature, for the killing of which Allah Almighty records good deeds and through which He erases sins, and it is the gecko.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Rahman bin Uqbah bin al-Fakih, from whom only Abu Ja'far al-Khatmi narrates; the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
