Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 6115

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once mentioned the snake and said: It and man were created equal. If it sees a person, it frightens him, and if it bites him, it causes him pain. So kill it wherever you find it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator named Jabir, whose full name is not given; it appears that he is Jabir al-Ju'fi. Sufyan al-Thawri and Shu'bah declared him thiqah (trustworthy), whereas the Imams, namely Ahmad and others, declared him da'if (weak).
