Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he forbade the ramiyyah, that is, that an animal be shot with arrows (that is, killed by being used for target practice) and then eaten; rather, it is to be slaughtered, and then he may shoot if he wishes.
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, and his narrated hadith is hasan (good).
