Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "In the mosque, in front of this pillar, there is a spot such that, if people knew what reward there is for praying there, they would draw lots for it." At that time a group of the sons of the Companions and a group of the sons of the Muhajirun were with Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). They said: "O Mother of the Believers, where is it?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) did not answer them. They stayed with her for a while, then they left, but Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) remained there. They said: "Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) will tell Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) about that place, so keep watching him to see where in the mosque he prays." After a little while Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) came out and prayed beside the pillar beside which his son Amir bin Abdullah bin al-Zubayr used to pray, and that pillar is called the pillar of "the lot" (al-Qur'ah). The narrator Atiq says: This is the pillar that stands in the middle between the grave and the pulpit; to its right, towards the pulpit, there are two pillars; between it and the pulpit there are two pillars; and between it and the courtyard there are two pillars, so it stands in the middle of these as well. It is called the pillar of al-Qur'ah.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat.
