عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَصْلٌ فَلْيَتَمَسَّكْ بِهِ ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ بِهَا أَصْلٌ فَلْيَجْعَلْ لَهُ بِهَا أَصْلًا فَلَيَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ يَكُونُ الَّذِي لَيْسَ لَهُ بِهَا أَصْلٌ كَالْخَارِجِ مِنْهَا الْمُجْتَازِ إِلَى غَيْرِهَا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ذَكَرَهُمُ ابْنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِيهِمْ جَرْحًا .

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has a root (that is, land) in Madinah, let him hold firmly to it; and whoever has no root here, let him establish a root here, for soon a time will come upon the people when the one who has no root here will be like someone who leaves it and passes on to another place."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its narrators were mentioned by Ibn Abi Hatim, and he did not mention any criticism (jarh) of any of them.
