Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates: Hatim al-Ta'i was mentioned in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "He was a man who intended something (that is, gaining fame), and he attained it."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Ubayd bin Waqid al-Qaysi, whom Abu Hatim declared da'if (weak).
