Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 467

Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, my father used to maintain ties of kinship and used to do such-and-such things." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your father intended something and he attained it." (The narrator relates:) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant being mentioned (that is, fame).
Ahmad recorded it, its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir.
