Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away. People used to carry men and women alike on the same kind of bier. She (i.e. Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays, may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! I was in Abyssinia, where the Christians from among the People of the Book live. They make for a woman a bier with ribs (arched bars) over it, as they dislike that anything of the woman's figure be shown. Shall I not make a bier like it for your daughter?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Make it." She was the first woman in Islam to make a covered bier, for Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Khalaf bin Rashid, and he is majhul (unknown).
