Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever washes a deceased person, fulfils the trust in doing so, and does not spread what he saw of him at the time of washing, comes out of his sins as he was on the day his mother gave birth to him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The task of washing the deceased should be done by the one closest to the deceased, if he knows how; and if he does not know, then by the one whom you consider to have a share of piety and trustworthiness."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Jabir al-Ju'fi, and he has been heavily criticised.
