Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: In Makkah there was a crippled husband and wife who had a young son. When morning came he would move them both and bring them to the mosque. He would earn for the two of them all day, and when evening came he would carry them both and take them back with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found him missing and asked about him, and he was told that their son had died. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If anyone were to be left (spared from death), the son of this crippled couple would have been left."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Abdullah bin Ja'far bin Najih, who is matruk (abandoned).
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: A hadith on this subject will come later in the chapter on the tafsir of Surah Sad, if Allah wills.
