Sayyiduna al-Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would keep praying voluntary prayers at night until his feet swelled. It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! Has Allah Almighty not forgiven your past and future sins?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Should I not be a grateful servant?
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Sulayman bin al-Hakam, and he is weak. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in the book al-Thiqat and said: He sometimes made mistakes. Al-Uqayli narrated from him, and he used to claim that he is thiqah (trustworthy).
