Sayyidah Aishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver the sermon leaning against the trunk of a date-palm. A Roman (Byzantine) man passed by and said: "If Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) calls me, I will make something for him that will suit him better than this." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: That man was called and brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he made a pulpit of four steps for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) climbed the pulpit and began delivering the sermon, and that trunk began to weep the way a she-camel weeps. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came down to it and said: "What is the matter with you? If you wish, I will pray to Allah Almighty and He will return you to your place; and if you wish, I will pray to Allah Almighty and He will admit you into Paradise, where you will bear fruit, and the Messengers, the Prophets of Allah, and His God-fearing servants will eat of your fruit." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Then I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Very well." And that trunk sank into the ground and disappeared.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Salih bin Hayyan, who is da'if (weak).
