It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: For one of you to sit on two hot stones would be better for him than to sit cross-legged during the prayer. Imam Abd al-Razzaq says: He means: When a person is praying standing, he should not sit cross-legged in the tashahhud; but when he is praying sitting, then he may sit cross-legged.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir from al-Haytham bin Shihab, whom Imam Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) declared thiqah (trustworthy); the remaining narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
