Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited "Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim", the polytheists would mock him, saying: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is mentioning the god of Yamamah," because Musaylimah had named himself "al-Rahman al-Rahim". When this verse was revealed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that this verse not be recited aloud.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
