Majma al-Zawaid 2535 — One who finds a gap in a row and does not close

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever sees an empty space in a row should fill it himself. If he does not do so, then anyone passing by may step over his neck as he passes, for that person has no sanctity."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Maslamah bin Ali, who is da'if (weak).
