It is reported about Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him): Once he was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went away for some need, and the time of prayer came upon the people, so Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped forward (and began leading the prayer). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, and he prayed together with the people behind Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him). When he had said the salam, he said: "You did well" (the narrator is in doubt; perhaps the words are:) "You did right."
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains Rishdin bin Sa'd, whom Haytham bin Kharijah declared thiqah (trustworthy). Ahmad said: There is no harm in him in hadiths on heart-softening themes (al-riqaq). A group declared this narrator da'if (weak). And the narrator Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman did not hear from his father.
