Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The mosque has its pegs (that is, people who always remain in the mosque). The angels sit with these people; if they are absent, the angels ask about their absence; if they fall ill, the angels visit them; and if they are occupied with some need, the angels help them." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who sits in the mosque is in one of three situations (that is, he is certain to attain one of these three things): a brother from whom benefit is gained, a word that is sound and firm, or a mercy that is awaited."
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, about whom there is criticism.
