Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abd al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "What is that Pond about which you speak?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(It is as large) as the distance between al-Bayda' and Busra. Allah Almighty has favoured me in regard to it in that it is so large that a person cannot estimate where its two ends were created." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said the takbir. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for the Pond, the poor among the Muhajirun will come to it, those who took part in fighting in the path of Allah and who died in the path of Allah. I hope that He will bring me to its channel and I will drink from it." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My Lord has promised me that He will admit seventy thousand people of my nation into Paradise without reckoning, and then every thousand of them will intercede for a further seventy thousand people. Then my Lord, joining both palms, will three times (bring people of my nation out of Hell)." At this Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said the takbir and said: "Allah Almighty will permit the first seventy thousand to intercede for their forefathers, their sons and the members of their families, and I hope that He will include me in the last three handfuls (that is, those brought out by joining both palms)." The Bedouin said: "O Messenger of Allah! Will there be fruits in it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! In it there will be a tree whose name is Tuba, and Tabiq al-Firdaws." The Bedouin asked: "Which tree of our land does it resemble?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It does not resemble any tree of your region. Have you been to Sham?" He replied: "No, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It resembles a tree in Sham whose name is 'al-Jawzah'. It stands on a single trunk and then its upper part spreads out." The Bedouin asked: "How large will its root be?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a young camel of your household (began to walk beneath it), it would not be able to cross it; before that it would grow old and die." The Bedouin asked: "Will there be grapes in Paradise?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes!" He asked: "How large will its bunches be?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(As far as) a crow that flies continuously for a month without pausing in between." He asked: "How large will its seed (or a single grape) be?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Has your father ever slaughtered a big male animal from among his goats?" He replied: "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then he skinned that animal and gave the hide to your mother and said: 'Tan it and make a bucket out of it, so that we may water our animals with it'?" The man replied: "Yes!" He said: "Then that single grape will satisfy me and my family?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, (that single grape will satisfy) most of the members of your clan as well."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and the wording is his; he recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Ahmad also recorded this narration, in abridged form. Its chain contains a narrator Amir al-Bakali; Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned him but neither criticised him nor declared him trustworthy. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
