Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 17973

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Souls were in the form of assembled troops. Those among them which knew one another (in the world of souls) are familiar with one another (in this world), and those which were strangers to one another (in the world of souls) remain apart from one another (in this world)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
