عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " كَرَمُ الرَّجُلِ دِينُهُ ، وَمُرُوءَتُهُ عَقْلُهُ ، وَحَسَبُهُ خُلُقُهُ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَالْبَزَّارُ وَلَفْظُهُ : " حَسَبُ الْمَرْءِ مَالُهُ ، وَكَرَمُهُ تَقْوَاهُ " . وَقَالَ : " الْحَسَبُ الْمَالُ ، وَالْكَرَمُ التَّقْوَى " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A man's nobility is his religion, his manliness is his intellect, and his lineage is his character."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Al-Bazzar also recorded it, and his wording is: "A man's standing is his wealth, and his nobility is his piety." And he also said: "Standing is wealth, and nobility is taqwa (God-consciousness)."
