عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِنَّ مَلَائِكَةَ اللَّهِ يَعْرِفُونَ بَنِي آدَمَ - أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ : - وَيَعْرِفُونَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ ، فَإِذَا نَظَرُوا إِلَى عَبْدٍ يَعْمَلُ بِطَاعَةِ اللَّهِ ذَكَرُوهُ بَيْنَهُمْ ، وَسَمَّوْهُ ، وَقَالُوا : أَفْلَحَ اللَّيْلَةَ فُلَانٌ ، نَجَا اللَّيْلَةَ فُلَانٌ . وَإِذَا نَظَرُوا إِلَى عَبْدٍ يَعْمَلُ بِمَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ ، ذَكَرُوهُ بَيْنَهُمْ ، وَسَمَّوْهُ ، وَقَالُوا : هَلَكَ فُلَانٌ اللَّيْلَةَ " . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُمْ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed the angels of Allah Almighty recognise the children of Adam; the narrator says: I think he also said: and they recognise their deeds. When they see a servant doing a deed of obedience to Allah Almighty, they mention him among themselves by name and say: Last night so-and-so succeeded; last night so-and-so attained salvation. And when the angels see a servant who does a deed of disobedience to Allah Almighty, they mention him among themselves by name and say: Last night so-and-so was ruined."
