عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى : " الر تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ " الْآيَةَ . قَالَ : نَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَتَلَاهُ عَلَيْهِمْ زَمَانًا ، فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَوْ قَصَصْتَ عَلَيْنَا ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا : الر تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا . الْآيَةَ . فَتَلَاهُ عَلَيْهِمْ زَمَانًا ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَوْ حَدَّثْتَنَا . فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : " اللَّهُ نَزَّلَ أَحْسَنَ الْحَدِيثِ كِتَابًا مُتَشَابِهًا " الْآيَةَ . كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يُؤْمَرُونَ بِالْقُرْآنِ . قَالَ خَلَّادٌ : وَزَادَ فِيهِ غَيْرُهُ : قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَوْ ذَكَّرَتْنَا . فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : " أَلَمْ يَأْنِ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ تَخْشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَمَا نَزَلَ مِنَ الْحَقِّ " . رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَالْبَزَّارُ نَحْوَهُ ، وَفِيهِ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْعَنْقَزِيُّ ، وَوَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ ، وَضَعَّفَهُ غَيْرُهُ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ ، وَهُوَ غَيْرُ خَلَّادٍ ، هَذَا أَقْدَمُ .
Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates concerning this saying of Allah Almighty, the words of the Exalted Lord: "Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the clear Book. Indeed, We have sent down the Qur'an in Arabic so that you may understand. We narrate to you the best of stories." The narrator says: The Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and for a long time he kept reciting it to the people. Then the people said: 'O Messenger of Allah! If you were to narrate stories to us, that would be fitting.' So Allah Almighty revealed: "Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the clear Book. Indeed, We have sent down the Qur'an in Arabic." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept reciting this to the people for a long time. Then the people said: 'O Messenger of Allah! If you were to tell us some discourse, that would be fitting.' So Allah Almighty revealed: "Allah Almighty has sent down the most beautiful discourse, a Book (in the form of) mutually resembling (contents in arrangement and the like)." That is, in every situation the people were directed to the Qur'an. The narrator Khallad says: Others added this: The people said: 'O Messenger of Allah! If you were to admonish us, that would be fitting.' So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Has the time not yet come for those who believe that their hearts should humble themselves for the remembrance of Allah Almighty and for what has been sent down of the truth?"
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Bazzar recorded something similar. Its chain contains a narrator, Husayn bin Amr al-Anqazi, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) and others declared da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Khallad al-Saffar, and he is thiqah (trustworthy); he is other than Khallad bin Muslim, this one being earlier.
