Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1704

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The sun rises from Hell within the horn of Satan (the narrator is in doubt; perhaps the words are:) between the two horns of Satan. As soon as it rises the height of one qasabah (a particular unit of measurement), one of the gates of Hell is opened, until, when the heat becomes intense, all of its gates have been opened.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its chain is hasan (good). It is also reported through another chain, and that report will come in the chapter mentioning the times in which prayer is disliked (makruh).
