Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas said: Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: "Shall I not teach you a phrase which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me?" I replied: "Yes, indeed!" He said: "When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and stayed at my house, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'O Abu Ayyub, shall I not teach you a phrase that is from the treasures of Paradise?' I said: 'Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you!' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Recite La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah abundantly.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat with two chains, and the narrators of one of them are thiqat (trustworthy).
