Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Allah! Bless us in our Syria (al-Sham) and in our Yemen." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! And for our eastern region too (that is, please pray for it)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Bless us in our Syria and in our Yemen." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! And our East (that is, please pray for it too)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Bless us in our Syria and in our Yemen." (Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), addressing that man, said:) "From there (that is, from the direction of the East) the horn of Satan will rise; there are nine-tenths of evil, and there is the incurable disease."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and the wording is his. Ahmad also recorded it, and the wording of his narration is: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said twice: 'O Allah! Bless us in our Syria and in our Yemen.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! And for our East too (that is, please pray for it).' So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'From there the horn of Satan will rise, and there are nine-tenths of evil.'"
The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, except Abd al-Rahman bin Ata, and he is thiqah (trustworthy); there is disagreement about him that does no harm.
