Matar Abu Musa, the freed slave of the family of Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: Once Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) met together, and I was sitting with them both; I was a boy. He (that is, Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)) said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! People claim that I attribute lies to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). What earth would carry me and what sky would shade me (if I were to do that)?" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "You are better than that." Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'If the people travel through one valley and the Ansar through another valley, I will travel with them in the valley of the Ansar.'" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I too heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this." Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Were it not for the Hijrah, I would have been one of the Ansar.'" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "You have spoken the truth; I too heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this." On that day, whatever hadith Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) confirmed it.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain contains narrators whom I do not know.
