Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Madinah al-Munawwarah, and there he met Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the Ansar): 'After me you will face others being given preference over you.'" Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Then what did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) command you to do?" Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to be patient." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then be patient."
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration. The narrator named Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil is hasan al-hadith (fair in hadith), and the remaining narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
