Imam al-Sha'bi narrates: Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim al-Ta'i (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Kufah. I went to him with some people of Kufah, and we said to him: Narrate to us a hadith that you heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said:
"When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent with prophethood, to my knowledge there was no one among the Arabs who disliked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) more than I did, or found him more hateful than I did, until I left my land and joined the Romans, and I became a Christian. When news reached me of the good character to which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was calling, and of how the people were gathering around him, I rode out and came to him. I came and stood by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); at that time Suhayb, Bilal and Salman were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Adi bin Hatim, accept Islam and you will be safe. I said: Akh, akh! Then I made my mount kneel and sat down, and my knee was touching the knee of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: O Messenger of Allah! What is Islam? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That you believe in Allah Almighty, His angels, His Books and His Messengers, and that you believe in destiny (qadar), whether it is good or bad, sweet or bitter. O Adi bin Hatim! The Hour will not be established until a woman travels from al-Hirah to perform tawaf of the House of Allah, fearing nothing. The narrator says: In those days Kufah did not even exist. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Adi bin Hatim! The Hour will not be established until you go out carrying a bag of wealth and go around with it, but you will not find anyone who will accept it, so you will strike the ground with that wealth and say: Would that you had never existed before this, or would that you had become dust before this."
Allamah al-Haythami says: I say: A small part of it is mentioned in the Sahih.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-A'la bin Abi al-Musawir, who is matruk (abandoned).
