Sayyiduna Dirar bin al-Azwar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came into the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: "Extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you upon Islam." Then I recited these verses:
"For the sake of seeking forgiveness and humble pleading (that is, repentance), I have left the divining arrows, the singing of slave-girls, and wine; and my wheeling of (my horse) al-Muhabbar in the thick of the fray (that is, battle), and my inciting of war against the Muslims (I have left all of this). So, O my Lord, let me not suffer loss in this bargain, for I have made this bargain in exchange for my family and my wealth."
Al-Tabarani and Abdullah recorded it; however, they reported these words: "and my charging against the polytheists."
Here the word "polytheists" is used in place of "Muslims," and it contains these words: "O Dirar! You have not suffered loss in your bargain."
In the chain he named one narrator as Muhammad bin Sa'id al-Bahili, whereas the weak one is al-Qurashi; and Allah knows best.
Al-Tabarani recorded it with two chains. One of the chains contains Muhammad bin Sa'id bin Ziyad al-Athram, and he is da'if (weak). Ibn Hibban's book al-Thiqat mentions Muhammad bin Sa'id bin Ziyad, but he did not state the word al-Athram. If this is the same man, then he has been declared trustworthy, and if he is not, then this narrator is weak. The other chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
