عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ قَالَ : كَانَ عُتْبَةُ يَقُولُ : عِرْبَاضٌ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي ، وَعِرْبَاضٌ يَقُولُ : عُتْبَةُ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي ؛ سَبَقَنِي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِسَنَةٍ . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
Shurayh bin Ubayd narrates: Sayyiduna Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: Irbad is better than me. And Sayyiduna Irbad (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: Utbah is better than me; he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one year before me.
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
