عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِتَبُوكَ ، فَطَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ بِضِيَاءٍ وَشُعَاعٍ وَنُورٍ لَمْ نَرَهَا طَلَعَتْ فِيمَا مَضَى بِمِثْلِهِ ، فَأَتَى جِبْرِيلُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : " يَا جِبْرِيلُ ، مَا لِي أَرَى الشَّمْسَ الْيَوْمَ طَلَعَتْ بِضِيَاءٍ وَنُورٍ وَشُعَاعٍ لَمْ أَرَهَا طَلَعَتْ فِيمَا مَضَى ؟ " . قَالَ : إِنَّ ذَلِكَ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ اللَّيْثِيُّ مَاتَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ الْيَوْمَ ، فَبَعَثَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ : " وَفِيمَ ذَلِكَ ؟ " . قَالَ : كَانَ يُكْثِرُ قِرَاءَةَ : ( قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ) فِي اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ، وَفِي مَمْشَاهُ وَقِيَامِهِ وَقُعُودِهِ ، فَهَلْ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَنْ أَقْبِضَ لَكَ الْأَرْضَ فَتُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " . فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ .
رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَفِيهِ الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ زَيْدَلٍ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ .

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at Tabuk. When the sun rose, its light was intense; we had never before seen it rise in such brilliance. Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Jibril, why is it that today I see the sun's light so intense? I have never before seen it rise like this." Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) said: Today in Madinah, Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Mu'awiyah al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) has passed away, and Allah Almighty has sent a thousand angels to him to offer his funeral prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is the reason for that?" Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) said: He used to recite Surah al-Ikhlas abundantly, night and day, while walking, while standing and while sitting. Then he asked: O Messenger of Allah, would you like me to fold up the earth for you so that you may offer his funeral prayer? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered his funeral prayer.
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains al-Ala' bin Zaydal Abu Muhammad al-Thaqafi, who is matruk (abandoned).
