وَعَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ : لَمَّا مَاتَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ مُوَرِّقٌ الْعِجْلِيُّ : ذَهَبَ الْيَوْمَ نِصْفُ الْعِلْمِ ، فَقِيلَ : وَكَيْفَ ذَاكَ يَا أَبَا الْمُغِيرَةِ ؟ قَالَ : كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَهْوَاءِ إِذَا خَالَفَنَا فِي الْحَدِيثِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قُلْنَا لَهُ : تَعَالَ إِلَى مَنْ سَمِعَهُ مِنْهُ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Qatadah narrates: When Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, Muwarriq al-Ijli said: "Today half of knowledge has departed." It was said to him: "O Abu al-Mughirah! How is that?" He said: "Previously, when a person of heretical views disagreed with us about a hadith, we would say to him: 'Come, let us go to the one who heard this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).'"
