وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ - قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - سَبْعِينَ سُورَةً ، وَخَتَمْتُ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى خَيْرِ النَّاسِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - . قُلْتُ : هُوَ فِي الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ قَوْلِهِ : وَخَتَمْتُ الْقُرْآنَ إِلَى آخِرِهِ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَالِمٍ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I recited seventy surahs before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I recited the entire Qur'an before the best of people, Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him).
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This narration is mentioned in the Sahih, but without the part about completing the Qur'an. Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration; its chain contains Yahya bin Salim, who is da'if (weak).
