Ibn Shihab narrates: Sayyidah Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her), the mother of Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both), was from Abyssinia. She was the maidservant of Abd al-Muttalib, and she looked after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his childhood. the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) freed her and then married her to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him). She passed away five months after the passing of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Al-Zuhri said it like this, and a narration on this matter reports that she lived on even after the death of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration; its chain is munqati' (broken), and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
