Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called me and said: "There is in you a likeness of Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him): the Jews hated him so much that they slandered his mother, and the Christians loved him so much that they raised him to a rank that was not his." (Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) Beware, two kinds of people will perish concerning me: an excessive lover who will praise me for what is not in me, and a hater whose enmity towards me will drive him to slander me. Beware, I am not a prophet, nor is revelation sent to me; rather, I act upon the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet as far as I am able. So whatever I command you of obedience to Allah, it is binding upon you to obey me, whether you like it or dislike it.
Abdullah recorded this narration, and al-Bazzar recorded it in abridged form, while Abu Ya'la recorded it in a more complete form. The chain of Abdullah and Abu Ya'la contains a narrator, al-Hakam bin Abd al-Malik, who is da'if (weak), and the chain of al-Bazzar contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Kathir al-Qurashi al-Kufi, who is da'if (weak).
