وَعَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَبْعَثَ فِي النَّاسِ مُعَلِّمِينَ كَمَا بَعَثَ عِيسَى بْنُ مَرْيَمَ الْحَوَارِيِّينَ إِلَى بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ " فَقِيلَ : أَيْنَ أَنْتَ مِنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ أَلَا تَبْعَثُ بِهِمَا ؟ قَالَ : " إِنَّهُمَا مِنَ الدِّينِ كَالرَّأْسِ مِنَ الْجَسَدِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْأَيْلِيُّ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I intended to send teachers among the people, just as Sayyiduna Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him) sent the Disciples." It was said: "Why do you not send Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Their position in the religion is that of the head in the body."
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Hafs bin Umar al-Ayli, who is da'if (weak).
