Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 14309

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from al-Baqi'. (The narrator says:) After this she mentioned the hadith about the illness of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in which further on are these words: Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: We began pouring water over him, until he began to say: Enough, enough. Here the narrator Muhammad bin Ishaq related these words: As Ayyub bin Bashir narrated this hadith to me, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out with a band tied around his head and sat on the pulpit. He began his speech by praying for mercy for the martyrs of Uhud, and he prayed for them abundantly. Then he said: One of the servants of Allah was given the choice by Allah Almighty between the world and what is with Him, and that servant chose what is with Allah Almighty. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) understood this and began to weep, and he realised that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant himself. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Abu Bakr! Be at ease. (Then he said to the people:) Look over the mosque and close all the doors adjoining it; leave only the door that is from the house of Abu Bakr, for I do not know anyone who has kept me company better than Abu Bakr.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: Further on some hadiths will come in another chapter which mention the closing of the doors, and those hadiths will come in their proper places, if Allah wills.
