عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ : إِنَّ أَوَّلَ خَبَرٍ قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَنَّ امْرَأَةً كَانَ لَهَا تَابِعٌ ، قَالَ : فَأَتَاهَا فِي صُورَةِ طَيْرٍ فَوَقَعَ عَلَى جِذْعٍ لَهُمْ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَتْ : أَلَا تَنْزِلُ لِتُخْبِرَنَا وَنُخْبِرَكَ ؟ قَالَ : إِنَّهُ قَدْ خَرَجَ بِمَكَّةَ رَجُلٌ حَرَّمَ عَلَيْنَا الزِّنَا وَمَنَعَ مِنَّا الْقَرَارَ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَرِجَالُهُ وُثِّقُوا .

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The background to the very first news that reached us about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is this: there was a woman who had a follower (that is, a jinn or familiar spirit). He came to her in the form of a bird and perched on their date palm. That woman said: "Will you not come down, so that we may give you news and you may give us news?" He said: "A man has appeared in Makkah who has made fornication unlawful for us and has forbidden us from staying in any one place."
