Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the Prophet of Allah, Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him), remained in his trial for eighteen years. All the people, near and far, cast him aside, except for two of his friends who were among his closest companions; they used to visit him morning and evening. One day one of them said to the other: 'Do you know, by Allah, Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him) must have committed a sin that no one else has committed.' The other asked: 'How is that?' He said: 'Eighteen years have passed, and Allah Almighty has not had mercy on him and has not removed his illness.' When the two of them came to Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him), that man could not restrain himself and mentioned this to Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him) as well. Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him) said: 'I do not know how much truth there is in what he is saying; however, Allah Almighty knows that I passed by two men who were quarrelling, and both of them were invoking Allah. I returned to my home and made expiation on behalf of both of them, disliking that only one of them would be invoking Allah in truth (while the other would be lying in his claim).' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him) used to go out to relieve himself, and when he had finished, his wife would take him by the hand and bring him back to his place. One day his wife was late in coming to him. In that place, revelation came to Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him): 'Strike the ground with your foot; from here will come cool water, which will also be fit to drink.' The woman was late in coming to him; then she saw Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him) coming towards her, and Allah Almighty had ended his trial, and he was in a handsome state as before. When the woman saw him, she said: 'O man, may Allah Almighty bless you! Have you seen the afflicted Prophet of Allah? By Allah, as he used to be when he was healthy, I have not seen anyone who resembles him more than you.' Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him) said: 'I am he.' Sayyiduna Ayyub (peace be upon him) had two storehouses, one for wheat and one for barley. Allah Almighty sent two clouds. When one of them came over the wheat storehouse, it rained gold upon it until it was filled, and the other rained silver upon the barley storehouse until it was filled."
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Bazzar's narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
