Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 13767

Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Sayyiduna Dawud said: 'I ask You by the right of my forefathers (those forefathers being) Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), Sayyiduna Ishaq (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Ya'qub (peace be upon him).' The Lord said: 'As for Ibrahim, he was thrown into the fire, and he showed patience for My sake, and you have not had to face that trial. As for Ishaq, he offered himself to be sacrificed, and he showed patience for My sake, and you have not had to face that. As for Ya'qub, Yusuf was taken far from him; that is a trial which has not befallen you.'"
Al-Bazzar recorded it as a report of Abu Sa'id from Ali bin Zayd; I do not know him (Abu Sa'id), and the narrator Ali bin Zayd is da'if (weak), though he has also been declared trustworthy.
