وَعَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا ، خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا " . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ ، وَقَالَ : لَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَسْنَدَهُ إِلَّا خَلَّادَ بْنَ يَحْيَى .
Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "That the belly of one of you be filled with pus is better for him than that it be filled with poetry."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. He said: To our knowledge, no one other than Khallad bin Yahya has narrated it as musnad (connected to the Prophet).
