Abu al-Aswad reports this about Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him): He was watering (his animals) at a trough when some people came, and it was said: "Which of you will bring his animals to water at Abu Dharr's trough and be ready to lose a few hairs of his head?" A man said: "I will." The man came, brought his animals to the trough and broke it. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) was standing; he sat down and then lay down. He was asked: "Why did you first sit down and then lie down?" He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "When one of you becomes angry while he is standing, he should sit down; if his anger leaves him, well and good, otherwise he should lie down."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded it with the story shortened and without mentioning Abu al-Aswad.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
