عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - اسْتَقْبَلَ جِبْرِيلَ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَنَاوَلَهُ يَدَهُ ، فَأَبَى أَنْ يَتَنَاوَلَهَا ، فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ ، ثُمَّ نَاوَلَهُ يَدَهُ فَتَنَاوَلَهَا ، فَقَالَ : " يَا جِبْرِيلُ ، مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَأْخُذَ بِيَدِي ؟ " قَالَ : إِنَّكَ أَخَذْتَ بِيَدِ يَهُودِيٍّ ، فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ تَمَسَّ يَدِي يَدًا مَسَّهَا كَافِرٌ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ عُمَرُ بْنُ رِيَاحٍ ، وَهُوَ مُجْمَعٌ عَلَى ضَعْفِهِ .

Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) extended his blessed hand towards him, but he did not put his hand forward. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water and performed ablution, then he extended his hand towards him, and he took hold of the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Jibril! Why did you not take my hand earlier? He replied: (A little earlier) you had taken hold of the hand of a Jew, and I did not like to touch a hand that a disbeliever had touched.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Umar bin Riyah, whose weakness is agreed upon.
