Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I love beauty, and I also love to be praised. The narrator says: It was as if this man feared for himself (regarding arrogance). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What prevents you from loving to live a praiseworthy life and die a blessed death? I have been sent to complete good character."
Al-Tabarani and al-Bazzar recorded it, except that he narrated these words: "I have been sent with good character."
Its chain contains Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr al-Jud'ani, who is da'if (weak).
