Majma al-Zawaid 12027 — What happened at the Camel, Siffin
وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ - يَعْنِي الْخُدْرِيَّ - قَالَ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ بَيْتِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فِي نَفَرٍ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخِيَارِكُمْ ؟ " . قَالُوا : بَلَى . قَالَ : " خِيَارُكُمُ الْمُوفُونَ الْمُطِيبُونَ ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْحَفِيَّ التَّقِيَّ " ، قَالَ : وَمَرَّ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، فَقَالَ : " الْحَقُّ مَعَ ذَا الْحَقُّ مَعَ ذَا " .
رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were at the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), some of the Muhajirun and the Ansar. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not tell you about the best of you? The people submitted: Yes indeed! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best of you are those who fulfil (their covenants, or their obligations) and are of good character. Indeed, Allah Almighty loves the one who remains hidden and is pious. The narrator says: Meanwhile Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The truth will be with him; the truth will be with him."
