Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) state: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was passing by while a man was reciting Surah al-Hijr or perhaps Surah al-Kahf. The man fell silent, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the gathering concerning which I have been commanded to keep myself with them."
Imam al-Bazzar recorded it as both "muttasil" (connected) and "mursal" (with the Companion omitted); its chain contains a narrator, Amr bin Thabit Abu al-Miqdam, who is matruk (abandoned).
