Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11644

Kulayb bin Shihab narrates: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was in the mosque. The narrator says: I think he transmitted these words: he was in the mosque of Kufah. He heard a loud echoing noise and asked: "Who are these people?" The people said: "These are people who are reciting the Qur'an, or learning the Qur'an." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "These are the people who were the most beloved of people to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Thaqafi, who is da'if (weak).
