Abu Muslim narrates: I came to Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was sitting in the mosque removing lice and burying them in the pebbles. I said: O Sayyiduna Abu Umamah! A man has narrated this hadith to me from you, that you (may Allah be pleased with you) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever performs ablution thoroughly, washes both his arms and his face, wipes his head and ears, and then stands to offer the obligatory prayer, Allah Almighty forgives him, for that day, the sins towards which he walked on his feet, which he did with his hand, which his ears heard, or which his eyes saw, and the evil he thought (all such sins of his for that day are forgiven)." Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have heard this from the Prophet of Allah so many times that I cannot count them.
Imam Ahmad recorded this report, and Imam al-Tabarani recorded something similar in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Muslim; I have not seen anyone mention this narrator's biography with either tawthiq (declaring him trustworthy) or jarh (criticism), except that Imam al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned him in the section on kunyas and stated that Abu Hazim narrated from him, whereas the report mentioned here was narrated from him by Aban bin Abdullah. Ibn Abi Hatim also mentioned him in the same way.
