Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), regarding this statement of Allah Almighty, said: (Allah Almighty says:) "Like a niche in which there is a lamp." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: This refers to the blessed chest of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him); the glass refers to his blessed heart, and the lamp refers to the light that is in his blessed heart. "It is lit from a blessed tree": here the tree refers to Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him). "An olive, neither of the east nor of the west", that is, neither Jewish nor Christian. Then he recited this verse: "Ibrahim was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one upright upon the straight path, a Muslim, and he was not of the polytheists."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator named al-Wazi', who is matruk (abandoned).
