Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11159

Abu Sumaynah narrated: A disagreement arose among us about the "arrival" (wurud) here. Some of us said that the believers will not enter Hell, and some said that all people will enter it and then Allah Almighty will rescue the God-fearing from it. I met Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: "A disagreement has arisen among us about what the arrival here means. Some of us say that the believers will not enter Hell, and some say that all people will go into Hell." I said to him: "There is disagreement among us about this." He said that some of us held that a believer will not enter it, and some said that all people will enter Hell. Then he moved his two fingers toward his two ears and said: "May these two become deaf if I did not hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'The arrival means entering. Every righteous and every sinful person will enter it, but for the believers Hell will become cool and safe, just as the fire became cool for Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), so much so that the Fire (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are: Hell) will make a loud clamour because of its coolness. Then Allah Almighty will rescue the God-fearing (from it) and leave the wrongdoers.'"
(Allamah Haythami says:) I say: A report from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) about the arrival is mentioned in the Sahih; it is mawquf (stopping at the Companion) and is other than this one.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
